Soft failures in Internet cables
The students Santiago Klein and Nicolás Aguerre presented their final project.
On Thursday, 12th October the students Santiago Klein and Nicolás Aguerre presented their final Engineering project SPLASH: Measuring the impact in connectivity of soft failures in Internet submarine cables.
In this work we develop techniques to study events such as cable failures that do not produce disruptions but degrade the quality of service in Internet. The students implemented a platform that automatically ingests data from a variety of network measurement sources. This information is then used to produce a dashboard that can be used to find patterns across different types of failures.
This project was co-advised by Esteban Carisimo (Northwestern University) and me.
The recording of their presentation (in Spanish) can be found here.
